The Faroe Islands (the sheep islands) is an archipelago consisting of 18 islands that were shaped by volcanic activity and the glaciers of the ice age. The country is a self-governing nation under the external sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark.
It is a unique and inimitable country, truly unspoiled and almost unbelievable.
The Faroe Islands were honored by National Geographic as the worlds’ best archipelago for unspoiled authenticity, a strong cultural integrity, a green lowland, and well protected nature.

The largest island is Streymoy, where a vibrant artistic community thrives in the capital of Tórshavn. The proud, stoical Faroese character has been forged from Vikings, Christian piety, Scandinavian openness and humbling nature that’s all around.
The community can boast of a vibrant art and music scene, and Faroese gastronomy has never been more highly thought of and talked about. Nature is the true ruler at the islands, and the humbling effect of a nature so strong is evident in the island´s culture and the way of living. The islands’ rugged landscape is characterized by steep cliffs and narrow fjords. Multi colored cottages and grass-roofed small wooden churches add focus to the grandly stark moorlands.
The Faroe Islands are far north enough to see the Northern Lights in all their glory. With some luck you can experience the amazing phenomenon during winter from November to February. Seeing the lights dance above you on a clear cold night is an absolutely magical experience that will stay with you forever.

Food culture & cuisine experiences

The strong ocean makes the waters around the islands one of the cleanest marine ecosystems on the planet and the Faroese seafood has a quality and freshness you only get few places in the world. If you want to explore the local kitchen of traditional Faroese food, such as fermented lamb, dried fish, rye bread, blood sausage and stewed rhubarb, there are plenty of possibilities.
If you are looking for a really extraordinary food experience, we highly recommend the 2-star Michelin Restaurant Koks, which is recognized and highly praised for its use of local products and traditional cooking methods. The head chef, Poul Andrias Ziska, masters artistry of distilling taste and smell from the Faroese landscape, combining them in exquisite dishes. The palate is local, uncompromisingly Faroese.

Alternative cooking

Together with a local chef, your guests should prepare a majestic dinner, and you can consider your guests should catch the fish themselves or/and collect herbs in the nature.  It can also be arranged as a “Master Chef” competition.

Destination Copenhagen prides itself in knowing the hot spots, the local favorites and newest trends.
We dare to promise you fantastic food experiences that will stay in your and the guests’ memories forever.
